1- French Overseas "Departements" (DOM) Retour à la table des matières

1-1 General information Retour à la table des matières

There are 6 French overseas « départements »: Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Martinique, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélémy, Réunion.

The procedure may take up to 10 days.

You have to apply at the French Consulate in Miami if you live in Florida, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos.

You have to provide a copy of all the documents required.

1-2 Do I need a visa to go there ? Retour à la table des matières

1-2-1) No visa is required for a short stay (up to 90 days) for the citizens of the following countries, they only need a passport valid for 3 months after the last day of their stay:

Andorre, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, United states, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong-Kong (passport holders of the "Région administrative spéciale" only), Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Macao (passport holders of the "Région administrative spéciale" only), Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, St-Marin, the Holly See, Singapour, Switzerland, European Union (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom), Uruguay , Venezuela.

1-2-2) Citizens of Grenada, Trinidad and Toboga, St-Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Caicos do not need a visa to travel to Martinique and Guadeloupe.

1-2-3) Anguilla, British Virgin Islands (Tortola) do not need a visa to travel to Martinique, Guadeloupe and St-Martin (short stay, valid passport).

1-2-4) Brazilians need visa for French Guyana only.

b)Citizens from other countries must have a visa to travel to the French overseas « départements ».

c) Special cases:

Citizens from Canada, Cyprus, South Corea, the United States of Amercia, Japan, Malysia, Malta, Mexico, Singapour and Venezuela must have a visa if they intend to work there.

American citizens also need a visa to go to the French overseas «départements », if:

- they want to study ;
- they hold a diplomatic, official or service passport and go there on an official mission ;
- they are crew members ;
- they are journalists and go there for their work.

2- French Overseas "Territoires" (TOM) Retour à la table des matières

2-1 General information Retour à la table des matières

The French overseas territories are the French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, New Caledonia and its dependancies, « Terres australes et antarctiques françaises(TAAF) », Mayotte, Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

The procedure takes around 10 days.

You have to apply at the French Consulate in Miami if you live in Florida, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos.

You have to provide a copy of all the documents required.
IMPORTANT: The visa section does not accept original documents by mail or fax.
The originals have to be brought by the applicant to the scheduled interview with one set of photocopies per applicant. (This Consulate does not make any copy).
This Consulate declines any responsibility in case of lost original documents.

2-2- Do you need a visa to go there ? Retour à la table des matières

For short stay (less than 90 days) in the "TOM", US do not need visa.

- For a stay of a month or less, citizens from the following countries do not need a visa ; they only need a passport valid for 3 months after the last day of their stay:

Argentina, Australia (no visa required up to 90 days in French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna and New Caledonia), Bolivia , Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republik, South Corea, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Estonia, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong-Kong * (passport holders of the "Région administrative spéciale" only), Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macao* (titulaires du passeport de la Région administrative spéciale seulement), Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Singapore, Slovaquia, Slovénia, Uruguay.

* Citizens from Hong-Kong et Macao need a visa to go to New Caledonia.

- Brazilians do not need visa for Islands of French Polynesia to travel in the same conditions (stay of a month or less / valid passport).

Citizens from other countries need a visa to go to these territories.

Exceptions:

a) Citizens from Australia, Canada, Cyprus, South Corea, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico and Singapore need a visa if they intend to have paid employment.

b) American citizens need a visa even for less than a month, if:

- they intend to study ;
- they travel on an official mission with a diplomatic/ official/ service passport ;
- they are crew member ;
- they are journalist on duty travelling to one of these territories.

c) Citizens from the European Union and the European Economic Area (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Danemark, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom), Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Saint-Martin, the Holly-See and Switzerland can stay in any of these territories up to 90 days without a visa. They only need a passport valid for 3 months after the last day of their stay.

The Consular Administration has full authority to appreciate and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant. The latter is hereby informed that submitting the aforementioned documents does not ensure automatic issuance of the visa.
