The «Festival de la Palabra», a major gathering in the Puerto Rican’s literary landscape

This festival is an annual opportunity for international and local writers as well as readers to meet and celebrate "word and literature". The event opens an intercultural debate promoting languages and cultures.

During four days, debates, roundtables, book presentations and readings take place among countless meetings, exchanges between readers and authors, and of course books sales.

The 2014 edition (Oct. 14-19, 2014) placed the Old San Juan under the spell of Julia de Burgos, considered today as one of the greatest poets of Latin America.

French language was also well represented. Indeed, thanks to the support of the Alliance Francaise of Puerto Rico, and in the presence of Mr. Philippe Létrilliart, Consul general of France in Miami, and Valérie Drake, Cultural Attaché, the festival has hosted this year three Francophone writers: Edith Serotte, James Noël and Véronique Ovaldé.

- Edith Serotte from French Guyana, is the author of “Les fourmis rouges”, a book selected for several awards such as the "Prix littéraire France Télévisions".

- James Noel is a Haitian writer, actor, chronicler and poet. Actually, he writes columns for Mediapart, and he works for a revue called IntranQu’îllités.

- Veronique Ovaldé is the author of numerous novels such as Le sommeil des poissons(2000) and Déloger l’animal (2005). Her book named Ce que je sais de Vera Candida was a great success and received three literary awards.
