Bayonne through a photographic lens
According to Dixie Blake, who is the President of the Sister Cities Association of Volusia County, of the many photos to be displayed at the event, 23 of those images, ranging in dimensions, and that are to be based on pictures and canvases done by some of the members of the Sister Cities Association, will be of Bayonne, France.
The City of Bayonne, France, becoming a sister city in 1998, was included five years after the founding of the Association on Dec. 7, 1993, roughly two months after a group of citizens came up with the idea of wanting to create an organization promoting and sharing the culture of its own county and those of other, international cities that are rich in cultural beauty.
Two of those 23 photos will be from the Fêtes de Bayonne festivals, from 2010 and 2011.
This festival lasts five days and begins the Wednesday before the last Sunday of August. So close is the relationship between those in Bayonne and Daytona that current mayor of Bayonne, Jean Grenet and his staff have been hosted by Daytona, and Mayor Bud Asher of Daytona and his staff were hosted by Bayonne.
“Students and teachers from the lycée in Bayonne visit Daytona each year, and our Association hosts them for the day,” said Dixie Blake. “Students from Daytona have visited Bayonne, as well,” she said.
