- e-Toile: Mr. Oscar Hilbert, in October 1942, you decided to participate in the World War II. Why did you decide to enrol in the US army?

Mr. Oscar Hilbert: The reason I wished to join the Army was I had just turned 18 and if I was drafted I would have no say in what branch I would go into.

I chose the tank corps and I was also placed in the armored infantry on December 18, 1944 at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge.

I was in a replacement pool having come back from the hospital in England. That was the 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion.

- e-Toile: In the file that you sent to the French government, you enclosed 4 large photos took on April 12, 1945 at the Ohrdruf Concentration Camp at Gotha, Germany. With them, you added a note. Could you explain why you wanted to insert these pictures and this letter?

Mr. Oscar Hilbert:The photos that I took at the concentration camp, I keep them to make sure that people realize that it was real.

As you remember General Eisenhower authorized all the people who were there from people to newspapers and magazines (Time, and many others) to take as many pictures as they wished and send them home for posterity.
He explained that in later years someone will come out and say this was a hoax. So that is my reason, just in case your office did not have the opportunity to view them.
Again, I personally took these pictures and this atrocity did happen.
