Blanca Guerra distinguished for her high contribution to French education

On May 15th, 2012, in the presence of the Broward County Board of Education and the Superintendent, Blanca Guerra was awarded the medal of the Academic Palms.

Originally a decoration founded by Emperor Napoleon, the award honored eminent members of the University of Paris. On 4 October 1955, it was established as an order by President René Coty. The early Palmes académiques were only given to teachers or professors. In 1866, the scope of the award was widened including major contributions to French national education and culture made by anyone, including foreigners.

Thanks to the partnership between the French Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Consulate general of France in Miami and the Department of Foreign Languages of Broward County Public Schools led by Blanca Guerra, a "French Heritage Language Program" has been implemented as an after-school program in different Broward County Public Schools. Blanca Guerra also supports French classes following the FLAM program (Français Langue Maternelle), which are set up during after-school hours as well.
