May 1, 2012: a "French Day" in honor of Jean Ribault and 450 years of French presence in Florida
The Florida House of Representatives passed a resolution (HR 9099) recognizing the 1rst of May 2012 as a French Day in Florida. It will mark 450 years of French presence in Florida and will honor Jean Ribault who commanded the French sailing expedition that dropped anchor at St Johns river in 1562.
In partnership with State authorities, specifically the State Department in charge of "Viva Florida 500" (http://www.fla500.com/main.php), elected members of the Congress of Florida and the Municipality of Jacksonville, this Consulate will take part in the commemorations being held in Fernandina, Mayport and Jacksonville from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May 2012.
