Tour de France / Florida: Contemporary Artists from France in Florida’s Private Collections on November 9th 2011 to March 18th, 2012
Although North American and South American artists are often at the forefront, contemporary French artists are increasingly visible, both in private collections and in museum exhibitions.
The Exhibition "Tour de France / Florida: Contemporary Artists from France in Florida’s Private Collections" at the Frost Art Museum (Florida International University) offers for the first time a focus on this French presence.
"Tour de France / Florida" presents the works of thirty artists from twenty-two collections among which are major foundations of Contemporary Art in Miami such as Rubell Family Collection, Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz Collection, Margulies Collection and the Sackner Collection, one of the first in the world dealing with works that rely on the articulation between visual arts and writing.
Throughout the exhibition, we can see the works of renowned artists such as Christian Boltanski, Annette Messager, Sophie Calle, ORLAN, or Claude Viallat, Bernar Venet as well as works from younger emerging French artists.
This exhibition at the Frost Museum, which is part of the official program of "Art Basel Miami Beach," confirms the exceptional French presence in Miami for the 2011 season.
The France Florida Foundation for the Arts (FFFA), which has received support of the French government, will be its main operator in partnership with the Frost Art Museum (FIU). Martine Buissart, independent curator and specialist in French contemporary art, will work as curator for the exhibition together with Carol Damian, Director of the Frost Art Museum (FIU).
