The Beacon Council, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Florida International University to hold a special conference in Miami on May 7th on “Fostering Economic Development in Florida Through High Speed Rail – The French Experience”

Business leaders, local and regional stakeholders, academics, elected and appointed officials, as well as potential contractors gathered at the Eden Roc Hotel & Conference Center on May 7th for a half day conference on High Speed Rail (HSR) in Florida and its foreseeable economic impact for the state.

Keynote speakers, panelists and members of the selected audience presented and debated the challenges and opportunities of building and operating a 21st High Speed Rail system in Florida.

Anne-Marie Idrac, French Minister of Trade and Industry will be joining Congresswoman Corinne Brown (D-FL), Chair of the Transportation Subcommittee on Railroads at the US House of Representatives for this high level conference that will address the needs of Florida and the opportunity to benefit from the French technical and operational experience in terms of HSR.

The Minister presented France’s 30-year experience of excellence in high speed rail, one of the world leaders in its design, technology and operation. Each year, tens of millions of tourists and professionals ride the well-known French TGV throughout the country and to neighbouring capitals.

With an operational approach focused on the specific Floridian case, this meeting strove to highlight the successes and challenges the French system has faced through the years, from its inception in the 1970s to its present-day state.

Seminar attendees received food for thought to better assess the challenges of a Floridian HSR system and solutions to overcome them, through a series of presentations from Florida and French business leaders in transportation and logistics, and panel discussions with top heads of state.
