Haïti - How to Help ?

A- Companies: You represent a French company based in Florida, Puerto Rico, or the close Islands and you are willing to contribute or are ready to offer your services for the upcoming reconstruction effort in Haiti. At this point in time and due to the humanitarian situation and the urgency in certain aspects of the crisis, we can think of a few institutional organizations that will channel the aid very rapidly. For the reconstruction part itself, the process will be determined by the operators and we suggest that you get information directly from them:

1- French Authorities

Three main departments will be involved:

Check

The Friends of the Orphans organization is a 501.c.3. (US arm) and their homes abroad are NGO’s (foreign non profit). They were founded in 1953. They have orphanages in 9 countries including the Dominican Republic and in Haiti. They also have a pediatric hospital that serves 30,000 Haitian poor a year (for free).

Donations can be made out to Friends of the Orphans via the following means:

Please specify on the bottom portion of the check your desired allocation (ie, 100% towards hospital in St. Damien, etc.). Mireille Chancy-Gonzalez has graciously offered to receive checks. Supplies

Following is a partial list of items they are soliciting:

• Water purifying tablets (rehydration salts) • First aid kits • Medicine (antiretroviral, antibiotics, prophylaxis) • Toiletry items • Canned food (evaporated milk, beans, soup (dry & canned), nutritional bars, dried fruit, baby food, formula & diapers) • Camping equipment (sleeping bags, blankets, can opener, batteries, sternos) • Clothes & shoes

Drop off locations for Friends of the Orphans :

- Mireille’s store WorldWide Photo 5040 Biscayne Boulevard between between 9 AM to 5 PM daily.

- 8980 SW 56th Street house (former Friends of the Orphans office) drop off supplies between 9 AM to 5 PM daily.

- There will be a collection point at the warehouse of Art Massolo, 9 AM to 4:30 PM daily at 7230 NW Miami Court, Miami 33150 (north of little Haiti).

- There will be a collection point at St. John Bosco Clinic at Corpus Christi Parish, 730 NW 34th St. 8:30 AM to 4 PM, daily. (Contact person is Betty. Medical supplies will be held inside the clinic. Larger donations will be held in an outdoor enclosed garage/storage area).

- Others Drop off Medical Supplies:

Jonas Haeger in Miami and Dr. Mallarino in Sarasota are assembling a team of physicians, nurses and volunteers to go there with supplies and set up a field hospital on the border to Haiti. Once at the border and in coordination with the Dominican ministry of health and the Red Cross, the team will also try to reach the CDTI hospital in Port-au-Prince to see if it can be more effective in using CDTI as a base.

The team needs bandages, pain meds, antibiotics, cast material, disinfectants, iodine, gauzes.
